1. RBI to Issue Rs200 Notes.

The new Rs 200 note will be issued on Friday, India’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced in a press release on Thursday.

The height of the note would be the same as the new Rs 500 notes that were issued post demonetization. However, the width will be much less. “Dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm x 146 mm,” the RBI said.

The base colour of the Rs 200 note is bright yellow, reminiscent of the now discontinued Rs 2 note.


2. Cabinet clears alternative mechanism to oversee PSU bank mergers.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given in-principle approval for Public Sector Banks to amalgamate through an Alternative Mechanism (AM). The decision would facilitate consolidation among the Nationalised Banks to create strong and competitive banks.

There are now 20 PSBs other than SBI. The Cabinet also stated that the final scheme will be notified by the Central Government in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The alternative mechanism will include a panel of ministers, whose members will be decided by the Prime Minister. But it is expected to include Jaitley and Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

At present, there are 20 public sector banks, apart from State Bank of India, which recently merged with five of its subsidiaries and the Bharatiya Mahila Bank.

3. Karnataka ties up with Microsoft to develop India’s first Farm Price Forecasting Model.

Karnataka Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with software giant Microsoft India to develop a unique price forecasting model.

The proposed initiative is claimed to be the first-of-its-kind in the country.

The farm price forecasting model will use latest IT tools in a bid to help farmers, administrators, and other stakeholders to understand market behavior.


4. Odisha Government launches rooftop solar project.

With an aim to promote renewable energy in Odisha, chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday launched grid connected rooftop solar projects.

Under the programme, the consumers can instill small solar plants on their rooftops and consume the generated solar power during day time. Excess power (if any) can be exported to the grid through their service cable.

The announcement by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet came hours after Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu indicated that he had offered his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the recent train accidents. “Necessary communication in this regard has been sent to the Ministry of Railways,” the committee said.


6. Lalit Mohan Das gets Biju Patnaik Award for Scientific.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today conferred the prestigious Biju Patnaik Award for Scientific Excellence to Lalit Mohan Das for his outstanding contribution to science and research.

7. Cabinet Approves New Bridge At Indo-Nepal Border.

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved an MoU to be signed between the two countries for laying down the modalities concerning the bridge, an official statement said.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for a new bridge on the India-Nepal border over Mechi river.

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved an MoU to be signed between the two countries for laying down the modalities concerning the bridge, an official statement said.

The new bridge is part of upgradation of the Kakarvitta (Nepal) to Panitanki Bypass (India) on National Highway 327 B, covering 1,500 meters, including a six-lane approach road of 825 meters.
